Welcome to Lockit
Lockit is a chat bot that lets your team reserve shared resources, so two people never use the same one at once.
Teams share things that only one person should use at a time: a staging environment, a test database, a device, a meeting room. Lockit keeps track of who has each one and until when.
You add a resource, then lock it when you need it and release it when you're done. Anyone who tries to lock it in the meantime sees who has it and when it frees up, and can ask to be told when it's released or ask the holder to hand it over.
Where it runs
Lockit works in:
- Slack: mention
@Lockitin a channel, or use the App Home. - Discord:
/lockitslash commands. - Microsoft Teams: mention
@Lockitin a channel, or message the bot directly. Available on request.
Scripts, CI pipelines and AI assistants can lock and release resources too, through the REST API and MCP server.
How it fits together
Resource → Lock → Release
(staging-db, (you, until (free for the
room8, …) 6pm) next person)
- A resource is anything your team shares. It has a name, a description, and optionally a channel where Lockit posts every lock and release.
- A lock belongs to one person and has an end time. When nobody picks a duration, it lasts 48 hours unless you've set a shorter default.
- Releasing frees it. Anyone who asked to be alerted hears about it.
